The Pipers' men's soccer team gave Macalester fits for most of the afternoon at Paterson Field before ending up on the short end of a 2-1 score. GK Spencer Von Behren (Jr., Bloomington, Minn.) surrendered an early goal on a corner kick but frustrated the Scots time and again after that. He recorded nine saves in all. His teammates patiently waited for their opportunity.
The Scots held a 10-4 edge in shot sin the first half. But the play was much more even in the second half. Things finally came to pass at 78:12 for HU when Ibou Wone (Jr., Dakar, Senegal) perfectly redirected Greg Northrop's (Fy., Arden Hills, Minn.) pass with a shot that went just under the crossbar to tie the game at 1.
But the Scots, the defending conference champs, came back four minutes to untie the game and claim the decision, thus ruining the sunny afternoon for most of the good crowd that assembled of the game.
Hamline is now 2-5-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the conference. They return to action at Paterson Field Tuesday when they host St. Olaf at 4:00 p.m.
