Hamline's women's soccer team dropped their first game of the season, 1-0, at Macalester Friday night. HU is now 6-1-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the MIAC.
The Pipers have never beaten the Scots in women's soccer in 21 tries. On Friday, they came about as close as they ever have. The game looked like it was going to get off to a good start but Natalie Cooper's goal six minutes into the game was waved off due to an offside call. HU goalie Liz Stock (Sr., Savage, Minn.) was credited with just two saves but stayed busy all half as the Scots outshot the Pipers, 14-1.
Erin Urbanowicz (Fy., Gresham, Ore.) took over in goal in the second half. The Pipers tightened things up considerably and the game stayed scoreless until Mac's Georgia Cloepfil broke loose for a breakaway goal with 3:54 remaining in regulation time. A minute later, Urbanowicz stopped Cloepfil on a breakaway to keep the game tight. But the Pipers were held scoreless the rest of the way.
Hamline returns to action Tuesday afternoon with a game at St. Olaf.
