Late Heroics Push Womens Soccer Unbeaten Streak To Six

Tying last season's win total of five in just the sixth game of the 2011 season is noteworthy enough for the HU women's soccer team. Extending a school record unbeaten streak to six in a row pushes Saturday's 2-1 win at Bethel to a higher plateau.

But the topper is how it happened.

This was the sort of game the players involved will talk about for years to come.

For 80 minutes, it appeared the Pipers' record-breaking streak would end. The Royals scored 12:27 into the game ... just the second goal HU has allowed all season. BU held a 5-3 edge in shots on goal the first half and seemed ready to weather any storm. But Natalie Cooper fed Courtney McMoore (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn.) for her first goal of the season at 81:19 and the game was tied at 1.

20 seconds later, it was untied. A Bethel player was given a red card for pulling down a HU player in the box. Aileen Scheibner (Fy., Woodbury, Minn.) converted the awarded penalty kick for her team high fourth goal of the season and the Pipers never let up from there. As a result, Hamline is 1-0-1 in the conference and 5-0-1 overall. Liz Stock (Sr., Savage, Minn.) had four saves in the first half. Erin Urbanowicz (Fr., Gresham, Ore.) had one in the second and earned the win.

The Pipers stay on the road next week. On Tuesday, Sept. 20, they play at a non-conference game at Crown at 4:00 p.m. On Friday, Sept. 23, they visit Macalester for a rare night game beginning at 7:30 p.m.
