Pipers start fast but fall to BLC, 3-1

The Piper volleyball team responded well to a noisy home crowd and got out of the chute quickly in their match with Bethany Lutheran Wednesday night at Hutton Arena, rolling to a 25-18 first game victory. Unfortunately, the Vikings took command early in Game 2 and went on to record a 3-1 decision. HU, which had defeated BLC, 3-2 in their season opener last Thursday, is now 2-3 on the 2011 season.

Thanks to some hard hitting by Mackenzie Remick (Fy., Prior Lake, Minn.), HU started smartly. But the Vikings evened the score with a 25-18 decision in game 2. BLC won game 3 by a 25-14 margin. HU fell into an early hole in game 4 but then rallied to get within three points late in the match before BLC held on for a 25-19 verdict.

The Pipers will practice Thursday before heading to Chicago for four contests in a 24 hour period at the North Park Tournament. HU will face three Illinois schools and Marian (Wis.). The conference opener is September 13 at Concordia.
