Volleyball team opens home season; Women's Soccer on the road

For the HU volleyball and women's soccer teams, the first day of school means more than just buying books and meeting new teachers. The Piper volleyballers open the home portion of their 2011 schedule with a return engagement against Bethany Lutheran. The match begins at 7:00 p.m.

HU opened their season last Thursday with a 3-1 win over the Vikings in a tournament in Northfield. After tonight, Hamline heads back on the road for a four-game set at the North Park Invitational near Chicago. The Pipers, currently 2-2, will meet three Illinois schools and Marian (Wis.). They open conference play a week from today in Moorhead at Concordia.

The game can be seen via webcast on the front of this page as well as on the volleyball page.

The undefeated women's soccer team hopes to duplicate the success of their last trip to Wisconsin. Last Thursday, they opened the season with a 5-0 win at UW-Superior. They followed that up with a solid 4-0 win over UM-Morris at Paterson Field on Saturday. At 5:00 p.m. today, they take a shorter route east to meet UW-River Falls, which is currently 0-2. The Piper women return home Saturday to host UW-Platteville Saturday at 5:00 p.m. The men's team meets Northwestern on Saturday as well at home. That game begins at 1:00 p.m.
