Playing in intense heat against one of the best teams in the country, Hamline's men team fell 8-0 at Ohio Wesleyan Saturday night. The Pipers were held to five shots on goal as the Battling Bishops, still seething over a tense 2-1 loss the night before to perennial power Messiah, scored twice in the first nine minutes and never looked back. OWU, which is ranked No. 5 in the country and is considered a contender for the NCAA Division III title this year, led 4-0 at halftime and added four more in the second half.
Tyler Tallaksen (Fy., Coon Rapids, Minn.), who scored the Piper goal in a 2-1 loss to Hiram the night before and MF Greg Northrop (So., Arden Hills, MN) were named to the all-tournament team.
Head coach Jon Lowery reflected on the weekend: ""While being a difficult weekend from a result perspective it was a tremendous weekend for our program to travel and experience DIII college soccer at the highest level," he said. " We walk away a better team with invaluable experience at this point in the season to be prepared for our upcoming opponents."
Hamline returns home to start a four-game homestand next Saturday. They face Northwestern (MN) at Paterson Field at 1:00 p.m.
