Mens soccer team loses tough opener

Hamline's men soccer team got off to a good start Friday night in their season opener against Hiram College when Tyler Tallaksen, one of seven first-year players on coach Jon Lowery's team, picked up a loose ball and drilled it home 28:12 into the game. Unfortunately, that was all the offense the Pipers could muster in a 2-1 loss to Hiram College. HC tied the game before halftime and scored the winner with less than 18 minutes to play. The game was the lidlifter in the prestigious Fred Myers Invitational in Delaware, Ohio.

The Pipers managed 18 shots but only four of them were on goal. Spencer VonBehren (Jr., Bloomington, MN) recorded seven saves in the Piper net.

Hamline will face host Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday night. The game begins at 6:30 CDT. It can be followed online via this link: http://bishops.owu.edu/BishopLive/msoccer/live.html.

OWU, which was a NCAA Division III quarterfinalist last season and finished with a 19-2-2 mark, lost to three-time NCAA Division III champ Messiah, 2-1, in the evening's second game.
