Volleyballers split against UMAC foes

The beauty of being young is you can sometimes bounce back quickly. Two hours after Hamline's volleyball team found out what some of their MIAC counterparts discovered on Thursday -- that St. Scholastica is very good -- the Pipers showed some resilience of their own. HU swept past Crown College, 3-0, to partially erase the string of a 3-0 loss to the Saints earlier in the day.

HU started fast and stayed on their game against Crown, opening with a solid 25-14 win. The Pipers followed up with 25-17 and 25-22 decisions to earn their first sweep of the year. The Pipers thus finish their first test of the new year with a 2-2 won-loss mark.

Earlier, the Pipers fell 25-21, 25-14 and 25-22 to a Saints team that is now 3-0 and administered a similar decision to the host school the day before.

Sam Greeney-Hamlin (So., Saint Cloud, Minn.) led the HU attack against CSS with eight kills. First-year players MacKenzie Remick (Prior Lake, Minn.) and Frankie Miller (Grand Island, Neb.) added seven each. Lacy Koss (Fy., Dodge Center, Minn.) contributed 11 digs.

HU is now off until Wednesday when they open their Hutton Arena schedule Wednesday, September 7 with a rematch against Bethany Lutheran. HU defeated BLC, 3-2, Thursday afternoon. After that, HU toddles off to the Chicago area for four matches in a tournament at North Park.
