Piper women come out kicking in 5-0 win at UW-Superior

The Opening Act on the road was a smash success. The Piper women's soccer team put the hometown UW-Superior Yellowjackets on their heels early, scoring twice in the first six minutes of play en route to a 5-0 victory in the season opener for both teams. Aileen Scheibner (Fy., Woodbury, Minn.) scored twice and Jordan Sammons (Fy., Apple Valley, Minn.), Natalie Cooper (Jr., Stillwater, Minn.) and Brienne Garside (So., Broomfield, Colo.) added solos for the Pipers, who held a 21-5 edge in shots.

Liz Stock (Sr., Savage, Minn.) and Erin Urbanowicz (Fr., Gresham. Ore.) each recorded a save and shared the shutout.

Sammons got things rolling when she converted a Cooper feed four minutes into the game. Two minutes later, Sammons returned to favor for Scheibner. Cooper, last year's leading scorer with 10 goals, made it 3-0 at 24:18 and the Pipers never looked back.

HU now returns to St. Paul for their home opener Saturday against MN-Morris. Game time at Paterson Field is 4:00 p.m.
