Four Piper throwers qualify for NCAA national meet

Four Piper throwers - one from the men's team and three from the women's team - qualified for the 2011 NCAA Division III outdoor track and field championships to be held this weekend at Ohio Wesleyan.

NCAA Men's Championship Site 

Brennan McKeag will represent Hamline in two events - the shot put and the hammer throw. He was the lone MIAC competitor this spring to hit the NCAA provisional mark in the shot put, doing so at UW-River Falls on April 8th, a put of 16.57 meters (54-4 1/2). McKeag got into the hammer throw field with a provisional qualifying mark that is also a Hamline school record - 58.37 meters (191-6) - at the MIAC outdoor championships.

McKeag will compete on Thursday, May 26th, at 3:00 p.m. in the hammer throw. He will compete in the shot put on Friday, May 27th, at 4:30 p.m.

NCAA Women's Championship Site 

On the women's side, two athletes qualified in the discus throw - Robyn Wernberg and Becky Culp. Wernberg had an automatic qualifying throw of 46.01 meters (150-11), a throw she made at the Gustavus Adolphus Drake Alternative. Culp had a provisional throw of 44.26 meters (145-2) at UW-River Falls on April 8.

Brenna Coyle will represent the Pipers in the hammer throw. She had the top mark in the conference this spring, a throw of 52.26 meters (171-5) that won her the 2011 MIAC outdoor championship in the hammer throw.

Coyle will compete on Thursday, May 26th, at 6:00 p.m. Wernberg and Culp will compete in the discus throw on Saturday, May 28th, at 3:00 p.m.
