Coyle has NCAA provo toss as Pipers compete in Border Battle

Brenna Coyle put together another NCAA provisional qualifying performance as the Hamline University women's track and field team competed in the Border Battle at UW-Superior on Saturday.

Brenna Coyle (Jr., Lindstrom, Minn.) set a new meet record with her NCAA provisional toss in the weight throw of 15.85 meters (52-0). She won the event while Robyn Wernberg (Sr., Brainerd, Minn.) placed third with a throw of 15.48 meters (50-9 1/2).

Lauren Howe (Sr., Siren, Wis.) and Carolyne Bocovich (Jr., Andover, Minn.) placed first and second, respectively, in the mile run. Howe posted a time of 5:42.95 while Bocovich finished in 5:44.26.

The Pipers then swept the top three spots in the 600-meter run, led by Kameron Argiannis' (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) winning time of 1:40.96. Asha Ghassemlouei (Fy., Mendota Heights, Minn.) was second in 1:48.39 and Dani Vitali (Fy., Chisago Lakes, Minn.) was third in 1:49.62.

Hamline took the top two spots in the pole vault, led by Carly Braun (So., St. Cloud, Minn.) clearing 3.13 meters (10-3 1/4). Arlene Behling (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) was second at 2.98 meters (9-9 1/4).

Pipers finished second through fourth overall behind an unattached runner in the 55-meter dash. Braun led in second place in 7.60. Christina Walker (So., Katy, Texas) was third in 7.61 and Edith Kowouto (So., Minneapolis, Minn.).

Walker then finished second to an unattached runner in the 200-meter dash in 27.18. Kowouto placed fourth in 27.65.

Maren Fitzer (Jr., North Oaks, Minn.) ran to a third place finish in the 5000-meter run, finishing in 21:30.37.

Argiannis led Hamline in the 55-meter hurdles, crossing in third in 9.19. Mary Peterson (Jr., Nisswa, Minn.) was fourth in 9.25. She also led at the 200-meter distance, placing third in 30.91 while Hope Hertz (Fy., Elk River, Minn.) was fourth in 31.25.

Maria Theisen (Fy., Minneapolis, Minn.) was second in the 1000-meter run in 3:21.53.

Keelie Sorensen (Fy., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) was third in the long jump with a leap of 4.77 meters (15-7 3/4). She also finished third in the triple jump at 10.10 meters (33-1 3/4).

Becky Culp (So., Lino Lakes, Minn.) had a throw of 12.32 meters (40-5) to finish second in the shot put while Wernberg's put of 11.98 meters (39-3 3/4) was fourth.

The Pipers next compete on Friday, February 11, at St. Thomas.
