The Hamline University men's tennis team dropped a 5-4 match in Duluth as the host College of St. Scholastica edged out Hamline in a pair of close singles matches for the match victory.
Hamline entered singles play down by a pair of matches, winning just the second doubles contest, 8-0. David Croonquist (So., North Oaks, Minn.) and Kyle Helgemoe (Sr., Lakeville, Minn.) partnered for that win.
In singles play, Croonquist went on to win at first singles, 6-4, 6-2 while Robert Becker (Jr., Minnetonka, Minn.) won in a third set super-breaker, 6-4, 5-7, 10-8.
Bernard Mitambo (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn.) also won at third singles, 6-4, 6-1.
St. Scholastica was able to edge out close victories that included tie-breakers at fourth and fifth singles, however, for the match win.
Helgemoe had the closest of the two matches, falling 4-6, 6-7 (7-3).
Hamline falls to 1-3, 0-1 MIAC with the non-conference loss. They will next play on Saturday, March 5, hosting Macalester at 3:00 p.m. at the Baseline Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
