Pipers edge out Scots for first conference win

After a sweep of the doubles matches, the Hamline University men's tennis team went on to post a 5-4 win over Macalester College on Saturday for the Pipers' first MIAC win of the year.

Robert Becker (Jr., Minnetonka, Minn.) and Bernard Mitambo (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn.) won 8-4 at first doubles before both the second and third doubles matches went to 9-7.

David Croonquist (So., North Oaks, Minn.) and Kyle Helgemoe (Sr., Lakeville, Minn.) combined at second doubles while Sam Teitelbaum (Jr., Afton, Minn.) and Andrew Lutz (Jr., Pine City, Minn.) won at third doubles, 9-7.

Mitambo swept his matches for the day, winning at third singles, 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 10-5, in a super-breaker.

Lutz provided the other Piper win in singles as he took a 6-3, 6-2 match at sixth.

Hamline is now 2-3, 1-1 MIAC while Macalester is 2-2, 0-2 MIAC. The Pipers will host the University of Minnesota-Morris on Friday, March 11, at 6:00 p.m. The match will be played at Lifetime Fitness in White Bear Lake.
