The Hamline University men's tennis team held on to a 2-1 lead after a pair of 8-6 doubles wins to defeat Saint Mary's University on the road, 5-4, on Saturday afternoon.
David Croonquist (So., North Oaks, Minn.) and Kyle Helgemoe (Sr., Lakeville, Minn.) won at second doubles while Sam Teitelbaum (Jr., Afton, Minn.) and Andrew Lutz (Jr., Pine City, Minn.) pulled out the win at third doubles.
In singles, Hamline posted wins at third, fifth, and sixth singles to take the team match victory.
Bernard Mitambo (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn.) won at third, 7-5, 6-0. Teitelbaum and Lutz then completed their sweep of matches for the day, winning close battles at fifth and sixth singles, respectively.
Teitelbaum won in a third set super-breaker, 4-6, 6-3, 10-6. Lutz won in straight sets, taking a thrilling second set tie-breaker, 6-4, 7-6 (12-10).
Hamline is now 7-5, 2-1 while Saint Mary's is 5-0, 0-7 MIAC. Hamline next plays on Wednesday, April 6, at 4:00 p.m. at St. Olaf.
