Robyn Wernberg snagged an event win as the Hamline University women's
track and field team opened up the outdoor season with a strong home
meet on Saturday afternoon.
Hamline's event win on the day came in throws, as Robyn Wernberg (Sr., Brainerd, Minn.) won with a throw of 41.42 meters (135-11) in the discus throw. Becky Culp (So., Lino Lakes, Minn.) was second with a throw of 39.23 meters (128-8).
Brenna Coyle (Jr., Lindstrom, Minn.) then placed second in the hammer throw with a toss of 47.61 meters (156-2). Wernberg was sixth at 44.86 meters (147-2) and Culp was ninth at 40.67 meters (133-5).
Hamline distance runners competed well in the 5,000-meter run, which was led by four Division II runners from the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Jessica Kociscak (Sr., Anoka, Minn.) was the top-placing Division III athlete as she was fifth in 18:31.60.
A runner from Michigan Tech was sixth and Sara Holland (Sr., Dousman, Wis.) placed seventh in 18:44.0. Carolyn Bocovich (Jr., Andover, Minn.) was 12th in 19:26.78.
Christina Walker (So., Katy, Texas) had a pair of strong performances in the sprints, placing fifth in the 100-meter dash in 12.82 and then sixth in the 200-meter dash in 26.00.
At the 400-meter distance, Emily Brown-Phillips (Fy., Minneapolis, Minn.) was the top Piper, placing 14th in 1:03.08.
Kameron Argiannis (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:08.31 and then was 13th at the 100-meter hurdle distance in 16.65.
The Pipers rounded out the night with a fifth-place finish in the 1600-meter relay. The team of Argiannis, Kaitlyn Frenchick (Jr., Paynesville, Minn.), Brown-Phillips, and Dani Vitali (Fy., Chisago Lakes, Minn.) ran the relay in 4:13.07.
In the field events, Arlene Behling (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) finished third in the pole vault, clearing 3.25 meters (10-8). Stephanie Jenkins (So., Wentzville, Mo.) was sixth, also at the same height, and Carly Braun (So., St. Cloud, Minn.) was eighth, clearing 3.10 meters (10-2).
In the long jump, Argiannis has a leap of 4.89 meters (16-1/2) to finish seventh. Lynn Robohm (Jr., Rosemount, Minn.) placed eighth in the high jump, clearing 1.50 meters (4-11).
