LaFex tallied a 38.175 to tie for second in the all-around. She scored a 9.525 on the uneven parallel bars during the first rotation and then moved on to the balance beam, tying the Hamline record with a 9.750.
She then scored a 9.450 on the floor exercise and finished off on the vault, scoring a 9.450.
The record on balance beam was set in 2001 by Melissa Stanton.
Benson placed 13th in the all-around with a score of 36.700. She scored a 9.700 on the floor exercise during the first rotation then scored an 8.850 on the balance beam as she moved to the second apparatus.
During the third rotation, Benson scored an 8.950 on the uneven parallel bars and finished on the balance beam with a score of 9.200.
The top 14 competitors on each event (including all ties) advance to Saturday’s individual event finals, also to be held at UW-Eau Claire.
LaFex will compete in uneven bars and the balance beam while Benson competes in the floor exercise.
Additionally, Erika Degnan (Fy., Winona, Minn.) will compete on vault on Saturday.
