Pipers battle to win over Mustangs

Senior co-captains Kelly Gust (East Grand Forks, Minn.) and Liz Gunderson (New Prague, Minn.) made up the last doubles team to finish, but won the lone doubles point in a 9-7 battle at first doubles.

Gunderson went on to sweep her matches by winning 7-5, 6-3 at second singles.

The Pipers swept the fourth through sixth singles matches. Kelsey Eatherton (So., White Bear Lake, Minn.) won easily at fourth singles, 6-1, 6-2. Sara Mitambo (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn.) was stretched to a third set super-breaker at fifth singles before pulling out the 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 win.

Kristen Kiemele (So., Eagan, Minn.) held on for the straight-set victory at sixth singles, 6-3, 7-5.

Hamline's record is now 1-6, 0-5 MIAC with the non-conference win. The Pipers will next play in Orlando, Florida on Monday, March 23, against Luther College.
