Pipers start out 2009-10 season with quick goal in win

Alli Miller (Jr., Faribault, Minn.) got the Pipers' 2009-10 scoring started almost immediately after the opening face-off, putting the puck in the net for the first time just 27 seconds into the game. Erin Kastner (So., Faribault, Minn.) was credited with the assist.

Miller doubled the Piper lead just over nine minutes later when she scored a power play goal on a pass from Ashley Maskel (Fy., Apple Valley, Minn.) at 9:28.

The Piper lead was extended to 3-0 before the first intermission as Jenna Scattarelli (So., Elk River, Minn.) scored at 16:18 from Brianna Sigg (So., Coon Rapids, Minn.).

The Blugolds prevented a shutout in the second period, taking advantage of a power play of their own. Kelli Johnson (Jr., Farmington, Minn.) scored at 10:41 from Beth Dittrich (Sr., Roseville, Minn.) and Taylor Jenkins (So., Austin, Minn.).

Melanie Leveille (Sr., Appleton, Wis.) regained the three-goal lead for the Pipers on a pair of passes from Miller and Kraus at 17:40.

Hamline first-year goaltender Amelea Gray (Bozeman, Mont.) had 18 saves in her collegiate debut.

With the non-conference win, the Pipers open the season at 1-0-0 while the Blugolds start out at 0-1-0. Hamline has two week off before traveling to Finlandia.
