Sletten earns shutout in Piper debut

Sletten's first start was also her first appearance in goal for the Pipers. She ended the day with her first collegiate win and her first shutout. Sletten posted 22 saves in the effort.

Brooke Rundell (So., Thief River Falls, Minn.) scored her first collegiate goal to get the Pipers started in the first period. Her goal from right in front of the net at 15:30 came on assists from Rachel Deick (So., Edina, Minn.) and Mallory Steele (Sr., Rochester Hills, Mich.).

The teams skated through a scoreless second period, and the third period was looking to result in the same until Marian pulled their goalie with just over a minute to play. Alli Miller (Jr., Faribault, Minn.) passed the puck up to Melanie Leveille (Sr., Appleton, Wis.) at the blue line, and she shot it into the empty net with 40 seconds to play in the game.

Marian replaced their goalie and the teams skated the rest of the game even strength.

The non-conference win moves the Pipers to 3-7-1 overall and they remain at 0-5-1 MIAC. Marian is now 2-7-0 overall and stay at 1-3-0 in NCHA play. Today’s game was the final of the 2009 portion of the schedule for the Pipers. They will next play on January 2 and 3 at Concordia-Wisconsin.
