The Pipers warmed up quickly after the long bus ride to Winona, going
on a 20-0 run following a 5-5 tie early in the game. With Hamline up
25-5 with four and a half minutes left in the first half, the Cardinals
ended the scoring streak by the visitors. At halftime, Hamline led by a
score of 32-17.
Hamline started the second half on a 12-0 tear, going up 44-17 before
a Saint Mary’s three-pointer put the Cardinals on the board again. The
Pipers never backed down, winning by a 31-point margin, 74-43.
The Pipers were led by 17 points apiece from Jessica Heinen (Sr.,
Spicer, Minn.) and Gabriella Gustafson (Sr., St. Louis Park, Minn.).
Mary Wilkowski (So., Savannah, Ga.) contributed 15 points and nine
rebounds, while Nikki Klinck (So., Hibbing, Minn.) had seven boards and
four assists.
With the conference win, the Pipers are now 15-7, 12-7 MIAC. Saint
Mary’s is 3-19, 3-16 MIAC. Hamline will travel to Saint Benedict for a
3:00 p.m. start on Saturday, February 14.
