Piper women clinch playoff berth despite loss

This will mark the second consecutive post-season appearance for the Pipers, and their third in four seasons. Seedings in the tournament, which begins on Tuesday, February 24, will be determined by the final week of games. The Pipers have the chance to hold the fourth, fifth or sixth seed in the tournament.

In St. Joseph, the Blazers clinched the MIAC regular season championship with their win over the Pipers.

Saint Benedict took the lead off of the tip and maintained it through the games with two exceptions.

Gabriella Gustafson (Sr., St. Louis Park, Minn.) hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 27-27 with two minutes to play in the first half. The Blazers went on to lead by three, 30-27, after twenty minutes.

Jessica Heinen (Sr., Spicer, Minn.) secured a one-point Hamline lead (35-34) three minutes into the second half, but the Blazers regained control of the scoreboard and never let it go.

Rochelle Sather (So., Andover, Minn.) led the Pipers with 13 points while Heinen tallied 11.

The Pipers fall to 15-8, 12-8 MIAC with the loss. They will host St. Catherine on Wednesday, February 18, at 7:30 p.m. The game will also be Senior Night.
