The Pipers dropped their match to the Stars in straight sets, 17-25, 23-25 and 10-25.
Hamline started off by winning the first two points of the opening set on a pair of kills from Tasha Simmons (Sr., Eagan, Minn.). However, Dominican answered by taking the next three points and a lead the Stars wouldn't surrender for the rest of the set.
In the second set, the Pipers trailed by as many as seven points at 7-13. The team then launched a comeback to tie the set at 22-22 with a kill and an ace from first-year Danielle Bennett-Curry (Minneapolis, Minn.).
Dominican went on to win the second set by a pair of points before winning the third and the match.
In the opening match, Simmons led the Pipers with 11 kills while Bennett-Curry had seven. Simmons also led Hamline defensively with 17 digs. Heidi Larsen (Jr., Andover, Minn.) added 15 digs.
In the second match, Hamline battled from a 1-2 deficit to win the match in five sets (25-23, 21-25, 16-25, 25-17, 15-8).
After taking the first set, the Pipers dropped the next two before winning sets four and five in convincing style.
Anita Rojas (Sr., Valle del Cauca, Colombia) led Hamline with 13 kills in the second match. Simmons again had 11 kills, while Bennett-Curry and her classmate Alexandra Anderson (Minneapolis, Minn.) each posted nine kills.
Larsen led with 14 digs while setter Jackie Kelly (Jr., Blaine, Minn.) had 12 digs and 50 assists.
The Pipers start the season at 1-1 overall with the non-conference split. They will remain at Dominican University on Saturday for day two of the tournament.
