Piper softball drops pair of games at River Falls

The Pipers opened game one with a run in the first as Sophie Davidson (Jr., Saint Paul, Minn.) reached on an error, stole second base and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly.

They doubled their lead to 2-0 in the second inning as Brenna Healy (Jr., Mounds View, Minn.) waited out a two-out walk and was doubled home by Kellie Hoen (Sr., Cologne, Minn.).

The two teams played through scoreless innings after that until Hamline added their third run in the top of the seventh on an RBI-single from Grace Weinreich (Sr., Wahkon, Minn.).

River Falls responded in the bottom of the inning with three runs on three hits, including a lead-off solo homerun, sending the game into extra innings.

The score remained tied at 3-3 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning when an RBI-bunt by River Falls scored the runner placed on second, ending the game.

Hoen was 2-for-3 from the plate with an RBI in the opener while Weinreich was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Jourdan Ulrich (Sr., Apple Valley, Minn.) also went 2-for-4 from the plate.

Jessalyn Weaver (Jr., Eagan, Minn.) struck out six batters while taking the loss for the Pipers.

In the second game, River Falls' pitching held the Pipers to just two hits, both of which came from Weinreich. River Falls put up a run in each of the third, fourth, and fifth innings before scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game.

Kelsey Tacheny (So., Saint Paul, Minn.) took the loss on the rubber for the Pipers.

Hamline moves to 25-9, 16-4 MIAC with the non-conference losses. River Falls improved to 19-13 overall.
