Pipers softball posts ninth series sweep of season

After a scoreless opening inning in the first game of the double-header in Saint Paul the Pipers had four hits and three runs in the bottom of the second for the lead.

Heidi Larsen (So., Andover, Minn.) had a sacrifice fly for an RBI while Sophie Davidson (Jr., Saint Paul, Minn.) drove in two runs on a single up the middle.

Hamline added another run in the third and then exploded for five runs in the fourth to end the game after the fifth inning due to the eight-run rule.

In the fourth, Davidson doubled and then advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt to get the inning started. She scored on a single by Grace Weinreich (Sr., Wakhon, Minn.).

With two runners on base, Ashley Anderberg (Jr., Circle Pines, Minn.) stepped to the plate and hit a three-run homerun over the left field fence.

Hamline's final run of the game was scored on a wild pitch.

Jessalyn Weaver (Jr., Eagan, Minn.) gave up four hits was striking out one batter in earning the complete-game shutout win.

Davidson was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, Erin Farley (So., Saint Paul, Minn.) was 3-for-3 at the plate with a run scored, and Anderberg was 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored.

In game two, Davidson added three more RBI to her day's total in helping the Pipers erase an early 3-0 deficit.

St. Olaf scored early, taking advantage of a walk, a hit batter, and an error in the top of the first to go up 3-0. The Pipers responded in the bottom of the inning with run. They then put up their second five-run inning of the day in the second. 

Davidson drove in three of the runs in the second inning on a double to left field, putting her total for the day at five RBI. Anderberg also tallied her fifth RBI of the day in that inning, driving in a run on a single up the middle.

Davidson and Anderberg had put up identical statistics by the end of the double-header - both going 1-for-3 in game two to put their totals at 3-for-6 at the plate with five RBI and two runs scored.

Kellie Hoen (Sr., Cologne, Minn.) was 3-for-3 at the plate in game two, while Farley completed a perfect day at the plate by going 2-for-2 in the second game and 5-for-5 on the day.

Kelsey Tacheny (So., Saint Paul, Minn.) earned the win for the Pipers on the rubber, giving up six hits and striking out three batters.

The Pipers improve to 23-4, 14-4 MIAC while the Oles fall to 5-27, 3-15 MIAC. Hamline will play their final home games tomorrow, Wednesday, April 22, at 4:00 p.m. They will honor their senior class at the double-header.
