Piper softball streak stopped by Gusties

The Gusties were also riding their own win streak into the match-up, as they had won 12 in a row prior to the double-header with Hamline.

Gustavus scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, taking advantage of a pair of Piper errors and two hits. They added a third run in the fourth inning and two more in the sixth inning.

The Pipers challenged in the sixth, loading the bases with one out on a trio of singles from Heidi Larsen (So., Andover, Minn.), Sophie Davidson (Jr., Saint Paul, Minn.) and Jourdan Ulrich (Sr., Apple Valley, Minn.). Gustavus struck out the next batter and forced a ground out to get out of the inning.

Gustavus had 11 hits in the opener to the Pipers' four.

In the second game, the Gusties scored again in the opening inning, putting a run on the board on a homerun. They then added another in the fifth inning on an RBI single.

Hamline's lone run came in the sixth inning as Davidson hit a lead-off single. Grace Weinreich (Sr., Wahkon, Minn.) then had the RBI single to bring Davidson home.

The Pipers move to 19-7, 10-4 MIAC while the Gusties improve to 23-3, 12-0 MIAC. Hamline will host Bethel on Saturday, April 18, at 1:00 p.m. in their next MIAC double-header.
