The Pipers, who opened the day with a 7-4 loss to St. Thomas in a game that included seven home runs, began their scoring in the fifth inning, scoring a pair of runs on an RBI double by Heidi Larsen (So., Andover, Minn.) and a run-scoring infield single by Sophie Davidson (Jr., St. Paul, Minn.).
Bethel cut the margin in half with a RBI single, but Hamline answered with its second straight two-run inning — this time getting a two-run home run from Ashley Anderberg (Jr., Circle Pines, Minn.) with one out in the sixth.
The Royals made things interesting in the seventh, getting a lead-off single and a walk, and, after a ground-out to the pitcher moved the runners to second and third, a two-run double to right field made it a 4-3 game. A walk and a wild pitch gave Bethel runners on second and third with one out, but Jessalyn Weaver (Jr., Eagan, Minn.) worked out of the jam with a strike out and a line out to third to end the threat.
Davidson went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Anderberg was 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI.
With the win, the Pipers move to 28-10 overall and advance to tomorrow's 11:00 a.m. game against Gustavus. The Gusties defeated Bethel in the first game and then fell to St. Thomas, 4-1, in their second game. The winner of the game between the Pipers and Gusties will play St. Thomas for the tournament championship and the MIAC's automatic berth in the NCAA tournament.
