Pipers sweep Auggies in softball

In the first game of the double-header, Hamline scored seven runs on eight hits and one Auggie error in the second inning. The Pipers then added their eighth run in the third inning.

Ashley Anderberg (Jr., Circle Pines, Minn.) reached on an error to start off the inning and the Pipers controlled from there. Heidi Larsen (So., Andover, Minn.) had two RBI on a single, while Anderberg added three RBI on a double later in the inning.

The offense backed up a two-hit, no walk, complete-game shutout for starting Piper pitcher Jessalyn Weaver (Jr., Eagan, Minn.).

Anderberg was 1-for-2 with the three RBI and a run scored in the opening game, while Sophie Davidson (Jr., Saint Paul, Minn.) was 2-for-3 in the leadoff position with two runs scored and an RBI. Erin Farley (So., Saint Paul, Minn.) was 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Hamline capitalized on ten hits and five Augsburg errors en route to the win in game two.

The Pipers started the second game by scoring a pair of runs in each of the first two innings, and then added three in the fifth and two in the sixth for their nine runs.

The Auggies had cut the Piper lead to just one run with a three-run third inning, but only managed one more run in the game.

Davidson and Farley duplicated their first game performances in the second game. Farley's totals came to 6-for-8 with four RBI.  For the night, Davidson was 4-for-8 with two RBI and four runs scored.

The Pipers improve to 11-5, 4-2 MIAC with the wins while Augsburg falls to 2-22, 0-6 MIAC. Hamline will next play at Carleton on Wednesday, April 8, at 4:00 p.m.
