Davidson split her batting statistics evenly between Hamline’s two
opponents, going 2-for-3 with three runs scored in each game. She had
two RBI against Chapman and one against La Sierra.
The Pipers were the home team against Chapman University in their
first game of the day, scoring a run on a hit and an error in the first
inning. They then added two runs on two hits and a Chapman error in the
second for a 3-0 lead. Chapman scored a run in the fourth, before the
Pipers jumped to a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
In the fourth, Kellie Hoen (Sr., Cologne, Minn.) reached on an error,
setting up a two-run homerun to left center by Davidson, her first of
the season.
Chapman cut away at the Hamline lead with two runs in the fifth, but
the Pipers put the game away with three runs on three hits and an error
in the bottom of the sixth.
Jessalyn Weaver (Jr., Eagan, Minn.) earned a complete-game win on the
rubber for the Pipers, striking out one and giving up seven hits. In
addition to Davidson going 2-for-3, Erin Farley (So., Saint Paul, Minn.)
went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Ashley Anderberg (Jr., Circle Pines,
Minn.) was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
In the second game of the day, the Pipers handled La Sierra
University in convincing fashion, 10-2. Hamline scored a run in each of
the first and second innings, while La Sierra had one in the second
inning.
The Pipers, the visitors on the scoreboard, then opened up their lead
to 9-1 with seven runs on five hits and an error in the top of the
third.
Farley hit a lead-off single to center field and was joined on base
by Kelsey Tacheny (So., Saint Paul, Minn.), who reached on an fielder’s
choice and error that kept Farley at second. Anderberg drew a walk to
load the bases before Sarah Dittberner (Sr., Forest Lake, Minn.) hit a
two-RBI single that brought home Farley and Tacheny. Anderberg also
scored on the throw in, leaving Dittberner at third when the dust
settled from the at-bat.
Davidson then hit a two-out RBI-single and advanced to second on the
throw, scoring Dittberner. Gravem drove Davidson home with a triple to
right center, putting the Pipers up 7-1.
The scoring didn’t end there in the third, as Cortney Bailey (So.,
Blooming Prairie, Minn.) drew a walk and Jessica Churchill (Fy., Duluth,
Minn.) singled to left field, driving in Gravem and Bailey for a 9-1
lead.
Each team scored a run in the sixth, but La Sierra couldn’t manage
more than the two runs against the Piper pitching corps of Tacheny,
Brenna Healy (Jr., Mounds View, Minn.) and Rachel Smith (Fy., Mahtomedi,
Minn.). The trio gave up just one hit and one earned run, striking out
four. Tacheny earned the win.
Davidson went 2-for-3, as did Gravem and Dittberner. Gravem had a run
scored and an RBI while Dittberner had a run scored and two RBI.
Churchill was 1-for-2 with three RBI.
With the pair of wins, the Pipers improve to 6-2 heading into their final day of competition in California.
