Gleason, running in the second heat of the prelims on Friday, ran a 4:14.18. He finished sixth in his heat and had the 11th fastest time of the 14 runners in the nationals field.
The top three runners from each heat plus the next four fastest times advance to Saturday's finals.
Today's nationals appearance was Gleason's third in a year. He qualified for the indoor nationals last March and raced to All-American status at the cross country nationals this past fall.
Gleason's teammate Derall King (So., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) will make his debut at nationals tomorrow, Saturday, March 14. King qualified in the shot put. The finals of that event begin at 3:00 p.m.
