Pipers finish third as Gleason is crowned 5000-meter champion

Gleason won the 5000-meter race with a time of 15:00.34. He also finished fifth in the 1500-meter race finals earlier in the day with a time of 4:01.78.

Ian Bauer (Jr., Roseville, Minn.) finished fifth in the 5000-meter race with a time of 15:11.25 to earn honorable mention all-conference status.

Brent Nelson (Jr., New London, Minn.) also turned in a pair of all-conference performances. He was All-MIAC with a third place finish in the 400-meter dash in 48.62 and earned honorable mention status with a fifth place finish in the 200-meter dash in 22.20.

Also in the 400-meter dash, Andy Marnach (Jr., Hokah, Minn.) finished as honorable mention all-conference with a sprint to fifth in 49.55.

Brant Luehman (Sr., Amery, Wis.) completed his collegiate career with an All-MIAC honorable mention run in the 400-meter hurdles, placing fifth with a time of 55.23.

In the field events, the Pipers put together a large number of points in the throws. Derall King (So., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) had a put of 16.23 meters (53-3) to finish second, and All-MIAC, in the shot put. His throw also hit the NCAA provisional mark.

Josh Blaschko (So., Lakeville, Minn.) was fifth in the shot put with a toss of 14.75 meters (48-4 3/4) while Brennan McKeag (Fy., Lakeville, Minn.) was sixth with a put of 14.67 meters (48-1 3/4). The pair earned All-MIAC honorable mention honors for those throws.

Peter Usset (So., Mendota Heights, Minn.) put together an honorable mention throw in the javelin at 51.02 meters (167-5) for sixth place.

Dan Johnson (So., Granite Falls, Minn.) was the final all-conference honorable mention Piper performance with a leap of 13.21 meters (43-4 1/4) in the triple jump for sixth.

The Pipers finished third in the 11-team competition with 113.0 points. St. Thomas won the team championship with 182.0 points and Saint John's was second with 125.0 points.
