Pipers take second at Carleton Relays

The Pipers finished with 143.5 points to Gustavus' 163.0 points in the competition that featured athletes from 13 teams.

Nelson ran a 21.99 in the 200-meter dash to win the event. Also posting an event victory was thrower King with an NCAA provisional mark of 15.65 meters (51-4 1/4) in the shot put.

Sprinter Tyson Molitor (So., Belgrade, Minn.) was third in the 400-meter dash in 49.48.

Other top-three finishes on the track for the Pipers came at longer distances. Brandon Gleason (Sr., Mantorville, Minn.) was third in the 800-meter run in 1:57.25 and Ellis Richardson finished second in the 5000-meter run in 15:43.97.

In the field events, Ben Johnson (Fy., Roseville, Minn.) was second in the triple jump with a leap of 12.42 meters (40-9).

First-year thrower Brennan McKeag (Lakeville, Minn.) was second to king in the shot with a put of 14.83 meters (48-8).

Derek Peterson (Jr., Forest Lake, Minn.) and Blake Springman (So., Adrian, Minn.) finished second and third, respectively, in the discus throw. Peterson tossed 43.35 meters (142-2) and Springman threw 42.04 meters (137-11).

In the hammer throw, Andy Norman (So., Winona, Minn.) was third at 50.76 meters (166-6).

The Pipers will next compete on Wednesday, April 22, at Macalester.
