Clarence Suttle (So., Saint Paul, Minn.) started off with the first win of the day for Hamline, sprinting to first in the 55-meter dash in 6.72. Tyson Molitor (So., Belgrade, Minn.) was third in 6.78 and Brent Nelson (Jr., New London, Minn.) was fourth in 6.79.
The Piper 1600-meter relay team was also victorious, taking the race in 3:24.37.
Hamline then began tallying wins in field events, starting with a sweep of the throws. Derall King (So., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) won the shot put with a toss of 15.19 meters (49-10). Pipers then took the top four spots in the weight throw.
Andy Norman (So., Winona, Minn.) won the event with a throw of 16.02 meters (52-6 3/4). Nate Bell (Jr., St. Peter, Minn.) was second at 14.96 meters (49-1), Aaron Wilkerson (Jr., Roseville, Minn.) was third at 14.95 meters (49-3/4) and King was fourth at 14.37 meters (47-1 ¾).
Devin Swanberg (Sr., Lindstrom, Minn.) cleared 6-2 in the high jump to take the title in that event.
The Pipers will next compete on Friday, February 20, at the University of Minnesota.
