The two teams played a scoreless opening 45 minutes as Hamline took five shots-on-goal in the opening half and Saint Mary’s got one.

At 58:23, Hamline earned a penalty shot, which Drew Lukas (Sr., South St. Paul, Minn.) took. Saint Mary’s keeper Jon Szafranski (Sr., Barrington, Ill.) made a diving stop to his right to prevent the goal.

The Pipers kept attacking, however, and Szafranski couldn’t keep Piper senior Matt Warhol’s (Andover, Minn.) shot at the same corner of the net at 62:02. Warhol’s goal came on a pass from Moe Tageldin (Jr., Rochester, Minn.).

Zach Nelson (So., Eagan, Minn.) made four saves in recording the shutout while Szakranski made seven saves in net for the Cardinals.

With the win, the Pipers move to 6-8-1, 2-4-1 MIAC. The Cardinals are now 4-8-2, 0-6-1 MIAC. The Pipers will travel to Augsburg on Friday, October 23, for a 7:00 p.m. game under the lights.
