Pipers drop 6-3 decision to Augsburg

After playing to a 0-0 draw in the first 20 minutes, Ryan Kupperman (So., Canterbury, N.H.) scored a goal 12 seconds into the second period. Kyle Kurr (Jr., Elk River, Minn.) was credited with the assist.

Augsburg answered with three straight goals at 10:08, 11:16 and 14:23 in the second to go up 3-1. Kurr scored a goal of his own, on the power play, at 17:07 to cut the Auggie lead to one. Dustin Fulton (Sr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and goalie Zach Faust (Jr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) earned the assists.

However, the Auggies responded 30 seconds later with a power play goal, to go up 4-2 heading into the third period.

Kelly Plude (Fy., Elk River, Minn.) gave the Pipers some life early in the third, as he cut the lead to 4-3 with a scored at 3:04. Brett Burgau (So., New Ulm, Minn.) and Jordan VanGilder (Fy., Lino Lake, Minn.) earned the assists.

Augsburg didn't back down, however, scoring two more power play goals at 10:14 and 15:58 to win the game by a score of 6-3.

The Pipers drop to 16-7-1, 7-4-0 MIAC, while the Auggies improve to 6-14-0, 5-6-0 MIAC. The same two teams will face off at Augsburg tomorrow at 7:00 p.m.
