Austun Tavis (Jr., Grand Rapids, Minn.) started Hamline's scoring at 3:16 in the first period off of a pair of passes from Alex Contis (Jr., Calabasas, Calif.) and Cole Scattarelli (Sr., Elk River, Minn.). Stevens Point then tied the score just three minutes later for a 1-1 game.
The score remained tied until late in the second period when Berenguer scored his first goal at 18:08. Danny Vrenek (Jr., New Port Richey, Fla.) and Brian Arrigoni (So., Saint Paul, Minn.) earned the assists.
Berenguer's tally was the lone time the scoreboard changed in the second period before six goals were scored in the third period.
Ryan Kupperman (Jr., Canterbury, N.H.) ended the scoring drought with a power play goal just 42 seconds after intermission, as Berenguer and Jared Hummel (Jr., Eagan, Minn.) earned the assists.
The second goal of the night from Berenguer then came from on assists from Kelly Plude (Jr., Elk River, Minn.) and Hummel at 3:51, putting Hamline up 4-1. Plude has had an assist in each of the Pipers' first three games.
The hosts scored at 5:21, but Jordan Van Gilder (So., Lino Lakes, Minn.) put the Pipers up by three again at 6:38. Alex Lundbolm (Jr., Roseau, Minn.) and Bett Burgau (Jr., New Ulm, Minn.) were credited with the assists.
The final goal from UW-Stevens Point was recorded at 12:57. The Pipers took the 6-3 win on their last goal of the night at 16:10. Kyle Kurr (Sr., Elk River, Minn.) lit the lamp on that score, with Berenguer and Kupperman earning the assists.
The Pipers are now 2-1-0 overall in the 2009-10 season. They remain on the road to play at St. Norbert's on Saturday, November 7, at 7:00 p.m.
