The game started off as a reflection of the previous night's happenings. Saint Mary's scored in the first period at 7:48, and then the Pipers came back after the first intermission and tallied a pair goals in the second period.
The first goal came at 6:10 from Jordan Van Gilder (So., Lino Lakes, Minn.), who also tallied the Piper game-tying goal on Friday. Kelly Plude (Jr., Elk River, Minn.) and Jared Hummel (Jr., Eagan, Minn.) were credited with the assists.
Later in the period, at 15:46, Hummel tallied a power play goal off of passes from Ryan Kupperman (Jr., Canterbury, N.H.) and Cory Krogen (Sr., Marshall, Minn.).
Danny Vranek (Jr., New Port Richey, Fla.) then gave the Pipers a two-goal lead just 47 seconds into the third period. Van Gilder and Chris Berenguer (Jr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) earned the assists.
The Cardinals made it a one-goal game on a power play score at 12:17 in the third. They also held a 5-on-3 advantage for a little over a minute at the end of the period, but the Pipers killed off the penalty and preserved the 3-2 win.
Beau Christian (So., Moorhead, Minn.) was only forced to make 11 saves as the Pipers out-shot the Cardinals 37-13.
With the win, the Pipers improve to 4-1-1, 2-0-0 MIAC with the win. They will host UW-Eau Claire on Tuesday, November 24, at 7:15 p.m. in non-conference play.
