In the first half, the Pipers and Gusties exchanged one- and two-point leads, up until was was ultimately Hamline’s last lead of the game with 2:35 left in the opening 20 minutes. Gustavus then went on an 11-0 run to end the first half with a 10-point lead (41-31), including a buzzer-beater jumper by Seth Anderson (Fy., Minnesota Lake, Minn.) to head into the locker room.
The Gusties started out quickly in the second half as well, with Jesse Van Sickle (Jr., Garden City, Minn.) putting up five points immediately to give his team a 46-31 lead.
Carl Hipp (So., Little Canada, Minn.) led the Pipers with 16 points, while Levi Wenrich (Fy., Newhall, Calif.) had 14 points and Tanner Anderson (Sr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) had 10.
The Gusties were led by 19 from Ryan McPartland (Jr., LeSueur, Minn.), 13 from Robert Schmidt (Sr., New Germany, Minn.), and 10 apiece from Tyler Grey (Fy., Montevideo, Minn.) and Van Sickle.
With the conference loss, the Pipers fall to 3-9 overall, 2-6 MIAC, while the Gusties improve to 6-5, 5-1 MIAC.
Hamline has a week off from competition before traveling to Saint John’s for a 1:00 p.m. game on Saturday, January 17.
