At the end of the first half of play, Bethel led the Pipers by a score of 47-39. The Pipers came out of the locker room on fire, going on a 10-2 run to gain a 57-51 advantage at 14:10. That run included treys from a trio of Pipers – Max Van Ordstrand (Fy., Burnsville, Minn.), Tony Thrasher (Sr., Hustisford, Wis.) and Brandon Hayes (Sr., Bloomington, Minn.).
The Pipers then led by 73-66 with seven and a half minutes remaining in the game. Bethel then scored six straight points to close within one, 73-72, with five minutes to play.
Stoddard Barnhill (Fy., Minneapolis, Minn.) and Hipp answered with a pair of buckets to put the visitors up by five again with less than three to play.
The Pipers held on to a strong lead on the scoreboard after that.
Hipp finished with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Eric Clute (So., Hawley, Minn.) had 15, Van Ordstrand added 14, and Hayes finished with 10 points.
With the conference win, Hamline moves to 7-13, 6-10 MIAC. The Royals fall to 15-5, 10-5 MIAC. Hamline will travel to Gustavus on Sunday, February 7, for a 3:00 p.m. game.
