Josh Bain earns MIAC honor

On Saturday Hamline opened the 2009 season with a 34-0 defeat of Martin Luther College. Bain led a young Piper defense - the lone starting senior being CB Dante Guther (Sacramento, Calif.) - that shut down a Martin Luther offense which had tallied 44 points the prior week.

The pressure on the Knights' quarterbacks led to them only completing 2-of-22 passes for a total of 17 yards - with few of the passes even coming close to a receiver. The defense allowed only 106 rushing yards on 45 attempts and 123 total yards of offense on 65 plays.

Bain had one sack for a loss of 13 yards and six tackles (four solo, two assists).

The Pipers will next host Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday, September 19, at 1:00 p.m. to open MIAC play.
