The Pipers started the game by scoring two runs in the first inning as Sand hit a single to right field to score Tony Rogers (So., St. Michael, Minn.) and Dan Kaczrowski (Sr., St. Anthony, Minn.).
Northwestern responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second to tie the game.
The score remained at 2-2 until the Pipers scored five runs on three hits and an Eagle error in the sixth. Humerickhouse had two of his RBI on a double to left field in that inning.
The Pipers again used three hits to score five more runs in the eighth inning to bump their run total to 12. Humerickhouse's third RBI came on a ground out while Lincoln Hughes (Jr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) had an RBI-double. The other hit came on an RBI single from Kaczrowski.
David Sampson (Fy., Burnsville, Minn.) threw five innings on the mound to pick up the win and move to 1-1 on the season. He struck out four batters while giving up four hits and walking two.
Sand and Kaczrowski were each 2-for-4 at the plate, Sand with the three RBI and one run scored, Kaczrowski with one RBI and three runs scored. Humerickhouse was 1-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored.
The Pipers improve to 17-15 overall while their MIAC record stays at 8-6. The Eagles fell to 14-16 overall. Hamline will next host Macalester in a conference double-header on Saturday, April 25, at 1:00 p.m.
