Luther, filling the role of home team on the scoreboard in the opener of the double-header, scored two runs on three hits in the bottom of the first inning. They added another run in the second on three hits.
After scoreless third and fourth innings, Luther scored two more in the fifth on three more hits.
The Pipers scored their lone run of the game in the top of the sixth inning. Bill Sand (Sr., White Bear Township, Minn.) came into the game as a pinch hitter and hit a two-out double to left field. Tom Shu (Fy., Eagan, Minn.) also came in as a pinch hitter and drove Sand home with a double down the left field line.
Luther added one more run in the bottom of that inning for the final 6-1 score. They had 12 hits to the Pipers’ eight in the game.
In the second game, Hamline occupied the home team’s slot on the scoreboard. Luther scored early and often, putting up a trio of runs in the first, second, fifth and seventh innings. They added a solo run in the third to total 13 runs.
The Pipers’ run came in the bottom of the fifth inning as Tres Humerickhouse (So., Farmington, Minn.) hit a solo homerun to left center.
Luther’s 13 runs came on 15 hits and three Hamline errors. Hamline had three hits and there were no Luther errors.
With the pair of losses, the Pipers fall to 5-4, 0-0 MIAC. Luther is now 4-2.
