Pipers defeat Carleton in MIAC playoffs

After Rogers’ opening homerun, the Pipers, the home team on the scoreboard, took advantage of two walks and a hit batter to score a run on no hits in the bottom of the second. Carleton scored a run in the top of the fourth to cut the Piper lead to one run.

Hamline then sent eight batters to the plate in the fifth inning to take a 7-1 lead. They scored five runs on four hits, including a two-RBI double from Lincoln Hughes (Jr.,  Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) and a two-RBI single by Tres Humerickhouse (So., Farmington, Minn.).

Hughes led off the seventh with his second double of the game and went on to score the Pipers eighth and final run.

Rogers was 2-for-5 while Hughes was 2-for-4 at the plate.

Matt Mullendore (So., Amery, Wis.) threw a complete game on the mound for the Pipers en route to the win. He struck out four and scattered seven hits.

With the win, the Pipers improve to 22-18 overall. The winner of their game with St. Olaf at 5:00 p.m. will move on to play St. Thomas, who defeated St. Olaf 4-3 in the other elimination game, for the championship on Sunday.
