Pipers drop two to Royals, postpone Augsburg series

In the opening game of their MIAC double-header, the host Bethel Royals jumped on the board quickly, scoring four runs on three hits in the bottom of the first innings.

The Royals never let up after that, holding the Pipers to just four hits in the opening game and producing 12 of their own.

Tres Humerickhouse (So., Farmington, Minn.) went 2-for-3 in the first game.

Bethel started out game two in much the same fashion, putting three runs on the board on two hits in the bottom of the first.

Hamline scored a run in the second when Andy King (Fy., Fort Myers, Fla.) had an RBI-single to score Bill Sand (Sr., White Bear Township, Minn.).

Hamline's only other run of the afternoon came in the fifth when Dan Kaczrowski (Sr., St. Anthony, Minn.) singled, stole second and third, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Lincoln Hughes (Jr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.).

Kaczrowski was 2-for-4 at the plate in the second game.

The Pipers drop to 10-11, 2-2 MIAC with the pair of losses.

Hamline's double-header against Augsburg, originally scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, April 4, has been postponed. The game is now set for Monday, April 6, at 2:30 p.m.
