Culp's throw of 42.74 meters (140-3) came in her final toss. The top eight finishers at nationals are All-American.

Wernberg placed tenth out of the preliminary rounds with a throw of 41.50 meters (136-2). The top nine throwers move forward to the final round.

Both throwers were making their debut at the national meet.
