Pipers open season with big road win

After a scoreless opening period, Kastner tallied her first goal at 11:16 in the second on assists from Allie Miller (Sr., Faribault, Minn.) and Jessica Hunt (Fy., Bemidji, Minn.)

Hamline would then score four goals in the opening eight minutes of play in the third period.

Hunt started the stretch with an unassisted goal at 1:55. She and Kastner combined for the assists on a Jessica Kraus (Jr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) power play goal at 5:46.

The Pipers put a pair of goals on the board 20 seconds apart to go up 5-0, with Laura Randall (So., Fridley, Minn.) scoring an unassisted goal at 7:32 and Kastner scoring on a pass from Miller at 7:52.

The Sabres lone goal came at 12:53 in the third as Cassie Thompson scored from Megan Sesing-Gom.

Hamline out-shot Marian 38-23 in the game. Nicole Jones (Jr., Mora, Minn.) made 22 saves in earning the win in goal.

The Pipers open the season at 1-0-0 overall while Marian is now 1-1-0. The same two teams will meet again tomorrow, Saturday, November 6, at 2:00 p.m. at Marian.
