Wildcats down Pipers in final minutes of play

The Wildcats scored the only goal of the opening period of play as Michaela Michaelson (Sr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) scored at 8:39 off of an assist from Kelsey Abrahamson (Jr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.).

In the second period, the two teams exchanged goals, starting with a typing power play score by the Pipers at 12:21. Alli Miller (Sr., Faribault, Minn.) initially hit the pipe on a shot attempt and then picked up the rebound to score the goal. Jessica Hunt (Fy., Bemidji, Minn.) and Rachel Deick (Jr., Edina, Minn.) were credited with the assists.

At 15:54 Abramson gave the Wildcats the lead again, scoring from  Meghan Lange (Sr., West St. Paul, Minn.) and Michaelson.

Shortly after the Pipers took a penalty at 8:32 in the third, Haley Johnson (So., Bemidji, Minn.) stole the puck in the neutral zone as the Wildcats were getting called for a penalty of their own.

Johnson took the puck all the way to score a short-handed delayed penalty goal to tie the game at 8:43.

The Wildcats then took a 3-2 lead on a power play goal at 18:45 in the third as Kayla Clafton (Jr., Grand Rapids, Minn.) scored from Michaelson and Lange.

That goal would be the game-winner.

St. Catherine out-shot the Pipers 32-to-16 in the game. Caitlin Nosanov (Fy., Grand Rapids, Mich.) recorded 29 saves in net for the Pipers.

Hamline is now 2-7-3, 1-3-2 MIAC while the Wildcats are 7-4-1, 4-1-1 MIAC after the non-conference contest. The Pipers will continue with non-conference play on Friday, January 14, when they will host Robert Morris at 7:00 p.m.
