The Wildcats scored the only goal of the opening period of play as
Michaela Michaelson (Sr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) scored at 8:39 off
of an assist from Kelsey Abrahamson (Jr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.).
In the second period, the two teams exchanged goals, starting with a
typing power play score by the Pipers at 12:21. Alli Miller (Sr.,
Faribault, Minn.) initially hit the pipe on a shot attempt and then
picked up the rebound to score the goal. Jessica Hunt (Fy., Bemidji,
Minn.) and Rachel Deick (Jr., Edina, Minn.) were credited with the
assists.
At 15:54 Abramson gave the Wildcats the lead again, scoring from Meghan Lange (Sr., West St. Paul, Minn.) and Michaelson.
Shortly after the Pipers took a penalty at 8:32 in the third, Haley
Johnson (So., Bemidji, Minn.) stole the puck in the neutral zone as the
Wildcats were getting called for a penalty of their own.
Johnson took the puck all the way to score a short-handed delayed penalty goal to tie the game at 8:43.
The Wildcats then took a 3-2 lead on a power play goal at 18:45 in
the third as Kayla Clafton (Jr., Grand Rapids, Minn.) scored from
Michaelson and Lange.
That goal would be the game-winner.
St. Catherine out-shot the Pipers 32-to-16 in the game. Caitlin
Nosanov (Fy., Grand Rapids, Mich.) recorded 29 saves in net for the
Pipers.
Hamline is now 2-7-3, 1-3-2 MIAC while the Wildcats are 7-4-1, 4-1-1
MIAC after the non-conference contest. The Pipers will continue with
non-conference play on Friday, January 14, when they will host Robert
Morris at 7:00 p.m.
