Pipers take league-leading Gusties to OT

The two teams skated through a scoreless opening 20 minutes, with the Gusties taking 21 shots on goal to the Pipers' three. Nicole Jones (Jr., Mora, Minn.) held strong in goal for Hamline, making the 21 saves.

The scoreless game ended at 2:40 in the second period when Amanda Cartony scored for the host Gusties. Kelsey Kennedy was credited with the single assist.

Haley Johnson (So., Bemidji, Minn.) evened the score at 1-1 at 10:53 in the second with an assist from Alli Miller (Sr., Faribault, Minn.).

A scoreless third period gave way to a five-minute overtime period, in which at 2:54, Lindsey Hjelm had the game-winner.

The Gusties out-shot the Pipers 48-18 in the game. Jones had the 46 saves for Hamline in net.

Hamline falls to 4-12-3, 3-8-3 MIAC while Gustavus is now 13-3-3, 9-2-2 MIAC. The same two teams meet again tomorrow, Saturday, February 12, at 7:00 p.m. on Hamline's home ice at the Memorial Coliseum.
