A scoreless opening period of play broke into a wild second period as
the two teams combined for eight power play opportunities and a pair of
goals.
The Pipers wound up with five power play chances while the Blazers had three in the period.
Saint Benedict jumped on the scoreboard first at 10:50 when Catherine
Pollock (So., Hopkins, Minn.) scored an unassisted power play goal.
Hamline gained a 5-on-3 skater advantage at 16:35 in the period, and the Pipers capitalized on the opportunity.
Alli Miller (Sr., Faribault, Minn.) tallied the power play goal for
the Pipers at 16:49 following a scramble around the net. Haley Johnson
(So., Bemidji, Minn.) poked the puck over to Miller, who was standing
next to the left post. Miller flicked her second shot attempt around the
post to tie the game. Erin Kastner (Jr., Faribault, Minn.) was credited
with the second assist.
Hamline then scored two goals in the third period, starting just 31 seconds in as Johnson scored from Kastner.
Miller then tallied her second power play goal of the game at 12:46
to put the Pipers up by two. Kastner tallied her third assist of the
night and Jessica Kraus (Jr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) was credited
with the second assist.
The Blazers out-shot the Pipers 35-34 in the game. Amelea Gray (So., Bozeman, Mont.) earned the win in net for Hamline.
Hamline improves to 4-11-3, 3-7-2 MIAC and the Blazers are now
3-11-3, 2-7-3 MIAC. The Pipers will head to Gustavus Adolphus to play on
Friday, February 11, at 7:00 p.m.
