The win was the Pipers' fourth straight as they battle for one of the two remaining spots in the MIAC playoffs.
Saint Mary's started off fast, going up 8-2 in the first three minutes and expanding that lead to 13-6 within the next minute and a half. The trio who would ultimately lead the team in scoring at the buzzer, Jessica Thone (Fy., Woodbury, Minn.), Jess Miller (Jr., Carver, Minn.), and Kim Kaminski (Sr., Milwaukee, Wis.) combined for all but two of those opening points.
Down 13-6 at 15:32, the Pipers started to chip away at the Cardinal lead. They ultimately tied the game, 19-19, at the 10-minutes mark with a lay-up and free throw combo from Mary Wilkowski (Jr., Savannah, Ga.).
Kara Poirier (Fy., Eau Claire, Wis.) then drained a mid-range jumper for the 21-19 lead and the Pipers pulled ahead to lead by 10, 33-23, at 4:21.
Saint Mary's cut away at the deficit, but the Pipers still led by five at the the intermission, 37-32.
Jackie Kelly (Jr., Blaine, Minn.) hit a jumper to start off the second half and the Pipers never looked back. They regained their 10-point lead at 17:18 and maintained a double-digit lead until the final buzzer.
The reigning MIAC athlete of the week, Wilkowski, had a game-highs in points (17) and rebounds (nine). Tromesa May (Fy., St. Louis Park, Minn.) tallied 15 points, Kelly added 11, and Nikki Klinck (Jr., Hibbing, Minn.) had 10 points.
Saint Mary's was led by 17 from Thone, tying Wilkowski for the game-high in points. Miller added 13 and Kaminski chipped in 10.
The Pipers improve to 12-10, 10-9 MIAC while the Cardinals fall to 5-17, 4-15 MIAC. Hamline will hit the road to play at St. Catherine this Saturday, February 13, at 3:00 p.m.
