Wilkowski hits career milestone as Pipers fall to Knights

Wilkowski entered the contest needing just four points to hit the milestone. A pair of early layups brought her to that mark at 17:39.

The game opened with the teams trading one- and two-point leads. After a 21-21 tie with 9:06 remaining on the clock Hamline went on an 11-4 run to lead by seven, 32-25, with less than five minutes to play in the half.

The Pipers ultimately led by five at the break, 34-29.

A jumper by Kara Poirier (Fy., Eau Claire, Wis.) and a pair of free throws from Wilkowski put the Pipers up by nine, 38-29, to start the second half.

The Knights immediately started to cut away at the Piper lead, taking the game to the sixth tie of the afternoon, 44-44, at 12:59.

It remained a two-point game until the tenth and final tie of the game, 58-58, with 1:22 to play. Augsburg took the next lead and held onto it until the end for the five-point margin of victory.

Wilkowski had a game-high 18 points while Jackie Kelly (Jr., Blaine, Minn.) had 15 points, all from outside the arc. Tromesa May (Fy., St. Louis Park, Minn.) had 12 points and a team-high six boards.

The Pipers drop to 8-10, 6-9 MIAC with the conference loss. The Knights are now 4-14, 4-11 MIAC. Hamline returns to Hutton Arena to host Concordia on Monday, February 1, at 5:45 p.m. The game will be the first in a women's-men's double-header against the Cobbers.
